One of the absolute highlights of the trip was our sunset cruise with Capt Andy along the Nāpali Coast. You board the catamaran around 2:30pm and spend close to 5 hours out on the water with the most incredible views of rugged cliffs and untouched beaches. To call these cliffs inspiring is an understatement. In fact, I would say Kauai in general is ripe with visual imaginations of what the world can look like: Suessical, unexpected, yet seamless.
I had been worried about my ability to sit back and enjoy the catamaran experience since I have terrible motion sickness and in the past Dramamine has been effective largely insofar as it knocks me out for long periods of time. However, to my delight I discovered Bonine which worked like a total charm. The rough parts of the ride were actually quite fun and reminiscent of a roller coaster.
We were told that the waters during the summer tend to be glassy and calm. Ours were not. And, sadly, we had to turn back slightly early due to an incoming rainstorm. It was more than made up for though when we happened upon a few spinner dolphins on the cruise back.
